Paper trading workspace

RavingDesk

Practise trading on paper: orders, ledger, risk, exposure and journal. No real money.

RavingDesk is a free, local-first paper-trading desk: write market, limit and stop orders on a paper ticket, record hypothetical fills, track long and short positions at marks you enter with their source and date, size trades from a risk budget, check exposure and a portfolio shock, chart your own price observations and keep a trade journal. It also plans crypto spot round trips and Ethereum gas costs, and can show the ECB euro reference rates. It never connects to a broker, sends orders or holds money, and it is not financial advice.

Features

  • Paper order ticket & blotter

Write market, limit and stop orders, cancel working ones and record a hypothetical full fill that lands in the ledger, linked to its order.

  • Paper ledger

Every hypothetical fill in order, with weighted-average cost, long and short positions, reversals, fees, cash and realized P&L.

  • Positions at your marks

Value open positions at prices you enter, each with its source and date. Equity is withheld while a mark is missing instead of guessed.

  • Risk & position sizing

Size a long or short trade from account, risk %, entry, stop, target and fees, see reward/risk and a price-move map, then send it to the ticket.

  • Exposure & concentration

Long, short, gross and net exposure, gross/equity and each symbol’s share, calculated only when every position has a mark.

  • Portfolio shock

Move every mark by the same percentage and see estimated equity and change: a sensitivity check, clearly not a forecast.

  • Watchlist & manual price chart

Marks with source and as-of date, plus a chart of your own dated observations with a text summary, full table and SVG/PNG export.

  • ECB euro reference rates

On request, load the ECB’s daily euro reference rates with publication date, cache status and source, and save one as a dated mark.

  • Crypto round-trip planner

Spread, slippage, trading fees and a withdrawal fee in base units: estimated fills, net P&L, cost at a flat price and the break-even exit.

  • Ethereum gas estimator

EIP-1559 effective gas price, estimated and maximum execution fee, optionally at your own ETH price; flags a max fee below the base fee.

  • Trade journal

Write down why you took a paper trade and what you learned; search your reflections and include them in the report.

  • Files, links & CSV

Autosave with recent desks, undo/redo, workspace files, share links, CSV import of fills or prices and CSV exports of everything.

  • Desk report

Printable report (save as PDF) and Markdown with account, positions, exposure, orders, fills, chart and journal.

  • API, MCP & App Bridge

The same engine as four tools for scripts and AI agents, a documented project format, and hand-over of tables to other apps.

Templates

Start from a ready-made project and change it to fit.

Built-in tools

RavingDesk uses these tools. Each one also has its own page and works on its own, in the browser, through the JSON API and through MCP.

For AI agents

RavingDesk runs on a deterministic engine. The same functions are available as tools with a JSON API and MCP, so scripts and AI agents get exactly the results the app shows.

Frequently asked questions

Can I place real trades with RavingDesk?

No. RavingDesk is a paper-trading workspace. It never connects to a broker or exchange, never sends orders or transactions and never holds money. Every fill is entered by you.

Is this financial advice?

No. RavingDesk is for practice, planning and reflection. Its calculations use only the numbers you enter and omit taxes, financing, borrow costs, dividends and margin rules.

Where do the prices come from?

From you. Marks and chart observations are entered by hand, each with a source name and date, and RavingDesk cannot verify them. There is no live market feed.

Where do the exchange rates come from?

When you press “Load ECB reference rates”, RavingDesk asks the currency converter of usefulweb.site for the latest euro foreign exchange reference rates of the European Central Bank (ECB). The publication date, a cached-copy notice and the source are shown. The ECB allows reuse when it is cited as the source; RavingDesk shows the rates as published per 1 euro and calculates the inverse values itself. Reference rates are for information only and are not prices you can trade at.

Are the example prices real?

No. Templates use invented symbols such as EXAMPLE-A, invented prices and the source “Fictional example”, and the desk shows a banner while example data is present.

Why is my equity shown as a dash?

At least one open position has no mark. RavingDesk withholds equity, unrealized P&L, exposure and the shock check rather than calculating them from partial data. Add a mark on the Watchlist desk.

How do stop and limit orders work here?

They are notes of intent. RavingDesk does not watch prices, so an order stays working until you record a full fill or cancel it. Limit fills must respect the limit price; a stop fill is your own assumption, not a verified trigger.

Where is my desk stored?

In this browser (IndexedDB), saved automatically after each change. Use File → Save workspace file to keep a copy, or a share link to open it elsewhere. Files and links are not encrypted.

Limitations

What RavingDesk does not do (yet):

  • Paper trading only: no broker or exchange connection, no live market data, no real orders or transactions.
  • Calculations are illustrative and omit taxes, financing, borrow costs, dividends, corporate actions and margin requirements. They are not investment advice.
  • Positions use weighted-average cost in one account currency; fills are replayed in the order entered, not by date, and multi-currency portfolios are not converted.
  • Paper orders never monitor prices or execute automatically; only full fills are supported and stop triggers are not verified.
  • Marks, chart prices, crypto prices, fee rates and gas inputs are entered by you and cannot be verified by the app.
  • ECB reference rates are published once per working day and may be cached or delayed; availability depends on the ECB.
  • Browser storage can be cleared; workspace files and share links are not encrypted.
